"Fire On a Windy Night"
[EN] I walked an area that had been burnt on a windy night in October 2018.
Part of the area was an environmentally fragile zone.
Years of preservation and dedication had turned into ashes in one single night.
Ten years ago, not very far from there, a fire had burnt out a large piece of land was turned into a hotel complex.
I walked the area with a sense of despair and awe at the aesthetic of what was left.
Embracing the surprises of what had survived.
A maritime pine tree flashing its green needles in the background of a vibrant blue sky.
A beetle making its way into an ash-gray ground.
Nature reclaiming its rights.
What part of me has survived after my burnt out in 2013?
What will survive after we burn out the planet?
I questioned my intention of capturing images after this dreadful event that had put lives at risk.
I questioned that they would look good.
That they will show resilience.
One month after the event I walked the area while my brand new shiny tennis shoes - certainly manufactured in China - and lower legs were gradually covered by a thin layer of ash-grey dust.
What are we doing to ourselves and the planet every single day by relentlessly producing and relentlessly buying?
Are we so confused that intentionally, out of neglect or stunning shock, we are burning ourselves and the planet out?
Are we too, setting fires on windy nights...
